Mixing Creative Passions with Words to Bring Characters to Life

Aprel Phelps Downey loves mixing her creative passions with words to bring thoughts, ideas, and characters to life. Her love for writing began in elementary school when she entered a writing contest hosted by the local Kiwanis Club. That experience showed her how words have the ability to express the thoughts and emotions in her mind. From that moment forward writing became the driving force behind everything she does in life. Through the years, she has written countless blog posts for her personal blog and has had articles featured in publications such as Spotlight on Recovery magazine, Lifescript Women’s Health website, and Talent Zoo’s Digital Pivot e-zine. She currently owns a small business marketing company and a book publishing company. When not focused on writing, Aprel enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter and cheering on her Buffalo Bills!

The most important thing the author wants readers to gain from her book:

Aprel created Frankenpumpess as a way to show children that there is nothing wrong with just being yourself. As a victim of bullying herself, Aprel knows the pain and heartache of not fitting in and wants children to avoid changing who they are just to make that happen.

Why the author is an authority on the subject of her book:

Aprel experienced bullying as a child by the other children in her school. They would tease her and call her names because she walked with a slight limp. She would often feel sad and alone, wishing she could change who she was just so the teasing would stop. Looking back on those experiences as an adult, Aprel realizes that changing who she was would not have stopped the bullies from teasing her. Now she wants other children who are being bullied to understand the same thing.

Speaking Engagements and School Presentations:

Aprel loves visiting schools, libraries, and other youth organizations to help young children learn about the importance of reading and being themselves. Her passion for writing began in elementary school when she entered a writing contest and saw how words have the ability to capture the thoughts and emotions in her mind. By speaking to young children, she can work to instill a love for reading and for writing by sharing her children's book with her audience and helping them start on the path to creating their own book as well.
