Cindy C. Murray, Children's Author

An adventure-mystery chapter book author who inspires kids to create stories where their imagination takes them!

Cindy C. Murray has written three award winning middle grade adventure-mystery books in The Adventures of Sophie and Scottie book series. Her creative inspiration comes from many childhood adventures with her 6 siblings as well as from raising her two active daughters. Cindy has received a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Administration and has worked in marketing for Fortune 500 companies before she began her writing career.  She has been featured in various publications in San Diego, CA and Rowlett, TX.  Cindy attends author visits at elementary schools where she talks about plot and character development, her writing process, has a Q&A session with the students, and always reads from one of her books as requested from the teacher.

After each book won the Silver Mom's Choice award and the Gold Family Choice award, Cindy attended the Readers' Favorite Award Ceremony in Miami to receive the Silver International Book Award for her first novel, Sophie and Scottie's Adventures of the Monarch Mystery in the Children-Adventure category.  Besides writing, Cindy loves to go to sporting events, kayak in their local lake, and travel with her husband in the USA and other parts of the world.

The most important thing the author wants readers to gain from her books:

I have always wanted to write books for children for one very important reason: to promote literacy.  It is well known when a student is not able to read by the third grade, their odds of finishing high school are very low. I want to help children find the fun out of reading and to help them get swept away in a story that they can get lost in.  I believe my three books in The Adventures of Sophie and Scottie chapter book series for ages 7 to 12 can achieve that.

The three titles: Sophie and Scottie’s Adventures of the Monarch Mystery, Sophie and Scottie’s Adventures of Something’s Fishy, and Sophie and Scottie’s Adventures of Sweet Tooth Rock are entertaining to read and are full of action, adventure, a touch of science, and a bit of magic!

Why the author is an authority on the subject of her book:

My books are fictional chapter books, therefore as the author, my creativity is what makes me the authority of my own books. I do have a bit of science in each book that has been researched by me and my editor for validity in the story. For instance, I talk about the process of pollination and why plants need to be pollinated by insects or birds for their survival. In another book I discuss the Aurora Borealis and how these Northern Lights get their color in the atmosphere.

Speaking Engagements and School Presentations:

Cindy C. Murray’s presentation has five sections to it:

Section 1

I contact the point person in the school that I will be working with through email.  We will discuss the grade of the class I will be presenting to, what my fee is as well as pre-order details, the technical needs I have for a PowerPoint presentation, topics that I usually discuss and present, then date and time of the visit.

Section 2

I meet the students and begin using my PowerPoint to discuss what it means to be a good citizen with some fun questions for the kids with prizes for incentives.

Section 3

The PowerPoint then continues to discuss character traits and development, writing techniques, book goals, plot development, and other topics I encourage the students to talk about regarding writing and creativity.

Section 4

I read from the first book, Sophie and Scottie’s Adventures of the Monarch Mystery, and discuss what is happening to the characters in that chapter of the book.

Section 5

Closing thoughts and more Q&A if time allows. I then pass out the signed pre-ordered books.
