Kosa Ely, Author, Artist, Speaker

Being a writer, an artist, and a storyteller is my dream come true!

I’m fascinated by the art and stories of ancient and contemporary people, so whenever I get the chance I’m off to another country to experience their culture, learn their history, and make a lot of new friends. I’ve been to twenty countries so far. My most memorable experiences are living in remote villages in India, spending time with indigenous communities in the Amazon, and visiting the Maori people in New Zealand.

I find so much beauty and magic in this world, and creating books is my favorite way to capture and share that magic.

My newest book, The Jaguar's Story, is a contemporary tale of a young jaguar family and their search for a new home. Woven in the art and text is a mother’s love for her cubs and her desire to protect them from real-life dangers in today’s Amazon. The Jaguar's Story is the first and only illustrated story book about jaguars, their homeland, and why they are endangered.

The Jaguar’s Story received Moonbeam’s Gold Medal award for 2018 Environmental Children’s Book and IAN’s International Book of the Year award for Children’s Illustrated Fiction.

The most important thing the author wants readers to gain from her books:

All life is sacred. Be kind to one another and to the animals. Explore this great earth and help care for it’s future. Live close to nature, and find happiness within. Explore other lands and cultures, and find magic everywhere.

Why the author is an authority on the subject of her books:

My books are from cultures I have lived with and have a great reverence for. I’ve studied and taught the yoga stories of ancient India for more than forty years. My study of Amazonian fauna, flora and medicinal botanicals, along with wildlife and rainforest conservation, spans twenty years.
