Shannon Anderson, Children's Book Author, Presenter, and Writing Coach for Teachers

Get Your Students (and Teachers!) Excited About Writing!

Shannon Anderson is an award-winning children's book author and third-grade teacher. She is the regional advisor for the Indiana Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, is on the executive board for the Indiana State Reading Association, and is a frequent presenter at teaching and writing conferences. She loves teaching, presenting, writing, and running very early in the mornings. You can visit her website to find out more!

The most important thing the author wants readers to gain from her books:

I hope that my readers will learn about kindness and problem-solving when they read my books. Most of all though, I hope that kids will enjoy the stories and want to read more or create their own!

Why the author is an authority on the subject of her books:

As a teacher, mom, and author, I love to write for young kids about my personal experiences at home and in my classroom. I also direct and teach creative writing and poetry camps for kids. I've done almost 100 school and library visits and love to encourage young writers. As a teacher, I understand classroom and crowd management. As a former literacy coach, I have experience coaching teachers in writing and know the standards from K-5.

Speaking Engagements and School Presentations:

My author visits for students consist of sharing the reasons I love to write, writing tips, and what it is like to be an author. I share many exciting photos and stories of my books in process, people in the industry, and how we can use writing in mighty ways. I also offer professional development sessions for teachers when I am at a school. I share how I set up my writing lessons for the year, what I teach, and how I teach it. Lastly, if you want me to do a writing session with a class or group of students, I can do a creative writing or poetry lesson with the kids. Many schools will have a contest to decide which class(es) get to partake in this. I also enjoy speaking at Family Literacy Nights and Young Author Conferences. Just let me know!
