Tracy Schlepphorst, Children's Author

Tracy writes books to help kids get their Happy back!

Tracy Schlepphorst, M.Ed., author and founder of Emotion Belly Books, writes children's books that help children better understand their emotions. Tracy received a bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Missouri State University and a master’s degree in School Counseling from the University of Southern Mississippi. Tracy taught for five years in St. Louis, MO and was a school counselor in Tulsa, OK for four years - she loved every minute of it!

Her presence in the classroom has continued from student, to teacher, to counselor, to mentor, and now to special guest author in elementary schools across the country as she shares the messages expressed through her Emotion Belly Books.

The most important thing the author wants readers to gain from her books:

Tracy wants all of her readers to understand that no matter what, their Happy can never leave them. She understands that sometimes it feels that way, but with a lot of work and communication the barriers to happiness can be broken. Everyone has a belly full of emotions. When each emotion gets a turn, it makes more room for a bright and shining Happy.

Why the author is an authority on the subject of her books:

Emotion Belly Books was born out of Tracy’s childhood experiences. Tracy grew up in Webster Groves, MO, the youngest child of four, and what her mother liked to call, “a pleasant surprise!”

Unfortunately, great sadness entered Tracy’s life at age six, when her Dad died of cancer. “I felt so conflicted at times; I wanted to laugh and play and do what other six-year-olds did, but sadness hung over our house like a heavy, dark cloud.”

Tracy learned through additional losses in her adult life, how, as a child, she did not understand the roller coaster of emotions: shocked, angry, confused, sad, silly, and happy. It is her hope to help and educate others on the importance of social emotional learning through her stories. She wishes she’d had an Eden as a struggling six-year-old!
