Murray, my friendly and oversized Sheepadoodle, and I love talking with children aged 3–7 about making friends, bravery, and moving on from rejection. And, of course, how to approach a new dog. Our message is simple: while not everyone may want to be your friend, there’s always someone out there who will be your friend.

Author Biography:

Margot Tohn makes her delightful debut with Murray Goes to the Playground, inspired by her oversized Sheepadoodle and daily walking companion, Murray. A joyful explorer of careers and city streets, Margot has worn many hats—Olympic sponsorship wrangler, fraud examiner, garage guide publisher (yes, she visited all 1,100 NYC garages three times), Australian cowgirl, and small business whisperer. Her superpower? Reinvention with a wink.

She holds degrees from Cornell University and the Australian Graduate School of Management, and splits her time between New York City and Saratoga Springs, where she and Murray are local legends on treat-fueled strolls. When not writing or chasing squirrels (Murray, not Margot), she’s hosting dinner parties, playing tennis, or soaking up theatre and books. Murray Goes to the Playground is a love letter to curiosity, companionship, and the joy of everyday adventures.

Speaking Engagements and School Presentations:

Our 30 – 45 minute school visits begin and end with the children meeting and petting Murray (if they want to). Reading our book takes approximately 5 – 8 minutes, depending on how much the children interact.

After reading our book, Margot can lead a group discussion about making friends, how to move on from rejection, being brave, and persevering. We can also talk about how to meet a new dog.

We are high energy and create a welcoming environment for the children to communicate their feelings and meet a large dog.
