Helga Long has worn many hats: first as a stay-at-home mom to her three children, then as a fitness instructor, followed by teaching high school German before turning author. She lives with her husband, James, in rural Ohio and is enjoying retirement with reading, playing with her grandchildren, and staying active in many outdoor activities, including gardening, gold, and hiking.

Now many years later I'm in my 30th year in libraries, public, colleges, but mostly schools. The last few have been middle schools, which I'm loving! My education includes a Ph.D. in children's & YA literature/literacy from the Ohio State University (OSU). I'm so proud to have been mentored by both Rudine Sims Bishop and Janet Hickman. It doesn't get any better than that. I've also loved the last 10 years teaching adjunct for OSU and Kent State University. I have the unique experience of having taught from preschool to grad school.
